Public Data Visualisation Improvements
The aim was to present local government performance data to Estonian citizens in a way that was clear, approachable, and meaningful. The project focused on helping taxpayers quickly grasp key metrics that could inform their local election decisions.
🧩 The state wanted to share more data with the citizens and needed help reducing legends as much as possible and providing in-graph explanations to the infographics.
🧠 I worked as the UX Designer, responsible for improving how information was presented and ensuring the updated visualisations actually made the data easier to interpret.
📌 Key Responsibilities
Creating prototypes for new interactive legends and map behaviors
Running usability tests to validate comprehension and clarity
Collaborating with developers and preparing the handover materials.
📈 By moving from static legends to contextual, hover-based explanations, the redesign reduced the cognitive load required to interpret municipal performance data. This made the information more accessible to everyday voters and supported better-informed decision making during local elections.
